MAY 01st 2005 -- ANNOUNCEMENT
Covenstead Announces New Lineup . Good news for those of you who have been asking right along... As
you knew, Devin and I have been working What
HAS happened in just the past couple We'll
be moving forward, continuing with writing and recording - We
know that many of you have been patiently waiting, As
always, THANKS for your continuing interest also --- check out our blogs on Practice is always a lot of fun, too. We get the work part of it done, too - but it's always like an "adventure," too - we're always experimenting with new ideas - and with "covers" from all different realms, really. Not only playing abilities, but perhaps even moreso playing versatility, is going to make this project increasingly interesting. The other guys know another younger guitarist whom Dave had mentioned to me quite a while back. Maybe we'll see about having him come down next week or the week after ... Al - February 14th, 2002
I have just been sitting here and thinking about how everything is going so well with us - and actually much faster than I expected it to ... I'm thinking about the group of guys that I am playing with now, how many years I have been doing this, how extremely pleased I am about this band - this configuration of "Covenstead," which it now seems obvious is the one that is going to be it. I had mentioned a long, long time ago now about how being in a band is a lot of fun, but also a lot of hard work - that's the part that people who like our music really don't see - not with our band (unless you're one of those people who actually are around us all of the time in life ...) But I also had mentioned about how it's extremely kewl when all of the guys are friends, too. I want to say that this is the happiest situation
that I have been in for a long time - possibly the kewlest band that I have
EVER been in - throughout the MANY years that I have been doing this. I
hold ALL OF the other guys in extreme high regard - something which doesn't
always happen with us in life - and something which certainly doesn't happen
too easily with me. I mean - I don't HATE I have known David
for over 10 years now, since we worked together. Really, I immediately took
a liking to him way back at that time. He was already very seriously involved
in a cover band at that time. One night a friend of mine (a "decided little
brother," actually - a foster kid who lived with me off and on) went to
see Dave's band, and I knew right then that I wanted to either join that
group - or that I definitely wanted to at least someday do some collaboration
with David. That finally happened at a certain point last year (September
2000) and although things were sounding good - really good - different personnel
problems arose and that version of "Covenstead" also fell apart shortly before
Christmas. In any case, that's all history now and we're currently recording at a demo level already ... Our lead guitarist, Kevin, contacted me back at the beginning of this past summer. Initially I was so busy with my regular work and still undecided as to if I wanted to even get involved in another band, so I'm afraid that it took me quite a while to get back to him. In any case, once we did meet and played together for the first time, it was pretty obvious to both of us, I think, that we needed to continue onward with forming the rest of the band. Al - November 01st, 2001
Since a few weeks ago, we now have all of the permanent members and are a complete band again. Already, we are writing and recording new material. For those who have been waiting, we WILL BE a performing band, as well. Now, everything is DEFINITELY going extremely well ... Al - September 12th, 2001
Well - so far the summer has been productive, at least ... Rhode Island guitarist Kevin Williams contacted me after seeing my ad on the internet someplace or another ... We started playing together in June, and as of the beginning of August, we've started writing some new material together. The last time that I can recall co-writing material as progressive as we have been coming up with was in the early 80's - while in Modern Art. And it's GREAT to return to this realm - the place where I really feel most productive and at home. It's a thrill and an extreme inspiration to be playing with members of this musical capability again - especially after so long a time period ... We're still seeking other definite and permanent members, and all of us involved have busy schedules otherwise, but things are coming along just fine. Matter of fact, all things considered, everything is going extremely well ... Al - August 19th, 2001

There's NO QUESTION that there will be new phases
to the recording part of the project now.
We MAY cull a few songs from previous bands and projects.
For now, here are some links from previous parts of the COVENSTEAD project:
I've also begun working with several area bands and artists - as their promoter and/ or manager.
