Christmas
is a time for amusement, too - of course -
especially with the gathering of
family and friends ...
"All I need is a reindeer ..."
The Grinch looked around.
But, since reindeer are scarce,
There was none to be found.
Did that stop the old Grinch ...?
No ! The Grinch simply said,
"If I can't find a reindeer,
I'll make one instead !"
So, he called his dog, Max.
Then he took some red thread
And he tied a big horn
On the top of his head.
And
what was ever more amusing - or PATHETIC, as it were - than these aluminum
"Christmas trees" with their 4-color rotating light ? Believe me, you younger
folks - you're LUCKY that you don't remember these ... (hahaha)
I suppose I shouldn't complain
too loudly, though - as a kid I received many a nice present sitting
under one of these trees on Christmas morning.
I guess that still another reason
I always enjoyed going to Grandma's house was that she always put up a
real tree - and a manger scene.
I don't think we ever
had a manger at home - not at all ...
The fragrance of a real tree -
permeating throughout the house during the
Holidays - really adds a whole
other dimension - adds to the spirit of Christmas being "in the air," literally
...
I can't believe that last year (
2000 ) I actually finally broke down and bought an artificial tree. It's
the first time since being on my own - many Holiday Seasons now - that
I EVER put up a fake tree. I have to admit that they have come a LONG way
in making these - and that at least it LOOKS real. I did it because I didn't
want to deal with the absolute MESS that a real tree can make - so DO BE
AWARE OF THIS aspect of having a real tree - if it happens to be the first
time that you're considering one. I usually buy a blue spruce - and let
me tell you, those needles can do a real job on your hands by the time
you're done decorating that kind of tree. It's not like I will never get
another real tree. I just felt I wanted a break from it. I'm also working
weird shifts right now - so really ANY errand running can be a real pain
in the ass to have to coordinate - INCLUDING having to engage in the additional
chore of going out to buy a real tree. At least with the fake ones, you
can take it out and set it up any time that you happen to have the time
- which for me right now happened to be really late at night - when vendors
of the real trees definitely are NOT open ...
It was really pretty at Gram's when it snowed, too. I think that this was enhanced by the fact that the house sits atop a small hill and used to overlook a pasture when I was a kid. (Since then a "virgin forest" has grown in that area). There's a bay window in the kitchen which looks out on that area, and I remember it being really beautiful when it would snow - you got a sort of panoramic view from there ...
And
just who the hell are THESE people ...?!!! Oh, c'mon - you remember
them certainly if you're anywhere near or over 40 - that's for SURE. Go
ahead and visit them, but remember where you came from and return here
to check out the rest of my site when you get a chance, ok?
HINT: "C'mon get happy ..."
STILL puzzled ...? Oh, come on now
...
"I Think I Love You - but
what am I so afraid of
Afraid that I'm not sure of - a
love there is no cure for ..."
"Cherish is the word I use to describe ..."
"Stop ... Stop ... Look around - Somebody Wants To Love You ..."
And YEAH - as a YOUNG KID, I liked
them, too - at least until our BOSTON AREA produced the likes of AEROSMITH
... Man - when I ever heard and saw Steven Tyler, that was the END OF my
liking any of that sweetie-pie kind of bubble-gum music. But, hey - it
does serve its purpose somewhere deep in ancient memory - and the story
behind some of these bands is pretty interesting (who was ACTUALLY making
these records, that is ...) The
Partridge Family website is just one place to check out these interesting
tidbits ...
